What is your opinion on this?

He's scared to put himself out there because he thinks he'll get rejected. That's why he acts that way. But the he misses you and you too start talking again all the time and it's great. You need to tell him how you feel, tell him you like him and want to be with him, and tell him there never was anyone else. At this point you need to press the issue then you both will be happy and stop playing shy games :)
